Desert West Environmental, LLC is looking to hire experienced archaeological field technicians for 8-9 weeks (estimated 40-43 days) of pedestrian archaeological survey and site recording north of Elko, Nevada (Elko County).
TASKS TO BE COMPLETED: Class II (reconnaissance level & spot-checks) and Class III (intensive level) survey of approximately 4,525 acres of block and linear pedestrian survey (30m transect intervals) & recording of archaeological sites.
PER DIEM: $55/day (prorated for hours worked, under 8 hours). Per diem is not provided for non-work days.
ACCOMMODATIONS: This project is remote and will involve camping. Camping fees will paid by Desert West Environmental, LLC (Employer). Camping equipment will not be provided, but the camp area does have wireless internet; men's & women's private showers; a restaurant; and water and electrical hookups.
Up to two nights of hotel lodging (up to $90/night) will be paid to Project Employees between scheduled field sessions. Hotel lodging nights will be prorated based on the established 9-10 day field session and will be paid on DWE's standard pay schedule. Booking and paying for hotels between sessions will be the responsibility of the Employee.
PAY SCHEDULE: Paychecks, per diem ($55/day, prorated), and up to two nights of hotel lodging (up to $90/night, prorated) are paid every two weeks via direct deposit, per DWE's standard pay schedule.
PAY RATE: Pay rate is by position, minimum $18.00 per hour. Daily travel from the camp area to the Project survey areas (and return) will be paid.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of a BA or BS in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field. Must be physically fit and capable of hiking 40+ acres per 9-10 hour day through rough terrain while carrying a pack weighing up to 40lbs. The project area does have some steep areas (>30% slope) that will be spot-checked for cultural resources (Class II reconnaissance level sample survey). Current MSHA certification is preferred, but not required.
ESTIMATED START DATE: June 9-16, 2020, depending on snow conditions
ESTIMATED END DATE: August 6-11, 2020, depending on start date
NOTES: THE PROJECT IS ON AN ACTIVE MINE SITE and is subject to Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations. ***Applicants MUST be able to pass a 6-9 panel drug test and have current MSHA Part 48 Form 500-23. Current MSHA training is preferred, but MSHA training/refresher will be provided at Employer's expense.***
